Music for Trumpet and Piano

from Symphony No. 1 (original version)

Composed by Gustav Mahler

Arranged for Trumpet and Piano by Daniel Leavitt

The reason that "Blumine" was removed from Mahler's Symphony No. 1 is unclear. Perhaps the publisher advocated its removal based on the length of the symphony. Perhaps Mahler himself removed it in an attempt to remake the symphony from Romantic tone poem to a more serious and abstract semiotic canopy of sound. Whatever the reason there remains a beautiful trumpet solo composed by one of histories most important composers. This arrangement attempts to present the work as a "vocalise" relying on the performers ability to portray the subtle beauty and charm of the work.

This beautiful vocalise is based on the "missing" movement from Symphony No. 1.
